Advanced Lean Leaders are ideally dedicated full-time to Lean efforts, including value stream mapping, identifying opportunities, leading kaizen events and other projects, and coaching team members. Executing four to six projects a year, they are experts in applying Lean tools and principles to reduce waste, improve processes, gain efficiency and boost productivity.

Is the Advanced Lean program right for me?
Advanced Lean training is appropriate for anyone in any industry who wants to build their problem solving skills and leadership capabilities. If you are interested in applying the concepts and tools of Lean and in leading kaizen events, our Advanced Lean program provides an unparalleled experience in training, mentoring and real-world project experience.
What prerequisites do I need to enroll in the Advanced Lean course?
Completion of the following eLearning modules are required before taking Advanced Lean:
- Introduction to Lean
- The Eight Types of Waste
- High-Level Process Maps
What requirements must I meet to complete Advanced Lean certification?
You may take Advanced Lean as a standalone course or as part of a certification program. In addition to completing the classroom course, to gain certification candidates must:
- Achieve a 70% or higher grade on all Lean content exams.
- Participate in at least three Kaizen events in the workplace, leading at least two Kaizen events using the SCORE roadmap, as outlined in A Team Leader’s Guide to Lean Kaizen Events.
- Submit a report that documents each completed Kaizen event, and participate in an executive report-out for each event.
- Be nominated for certification by the Kaizen event sponsor and a team member.
- Be recommended for certification by a Lean Methods Group Lean Master.
How long does it take to complete the certification program?
The classroom course runs for five consecutive days and can be taken during one of several sessions throughout the year. Certification candidates have one year to complete their project and nomination requirements.
What kind of support do I receive through the certification program?
The certification program is managed and supported by Lean Methods Group Lean Masters. Candidates have a designated program manager who helps guide you through every step of the process—helping you complete coursework, pass exams, facilitate Kaizen events, prepare reports and present results to management. Our Lean Masters remotely support candidates as you participate in one Kaizen event and facilitate two Kaizen events in your organization, working through more complex Lean-related problems and technicalities and coaching you through any stakeholder and organizational issues involved.
Candidates have a designated program manager who helps guide you through every step.
Additionally, each candidate receives a copy of A Team Leader’s Guide to Lean Kaizen Events, including a CD-ROM with valuable templates, motivational posters, team charters and usable worksheets.
